This Weekend at Museum of the Earth

History of Life Course
Thursday, April 10
5:30 pm

This 6-week course will take you on a journey through time utilizing the exhibits at Museum of the Earth to highlight important events throughout the earth’s history. This course is free to Museum volunteers and members. $10 for non-volunteers/members. Topics that will be covered:

Perspective on life
Ancient seas over New York
Taking control of the land
Rule of the reptiles
Arms race in the sea
Mammals rule a world of change

Fossil Identification Day at Museum of the Earth
April 12, 2008
10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Staff paleontologists at the Museum of the Earth and the Paleontological Research Institution help you identify your most puzzling find, from brachiopods to trilobites to funny-looking rocks. Fossil identification is included with your admission to the museum.

Planet Earth Series
April 13, 2008
3:00 pm – 4:30: pm

Join us at Museum of the Earth for showings of specially selected episodes of the Discovery Channel’s “Planet Earth,” hosted in the museum classroom by local scientists whose expertise will allow them to delve more deeply into topics, answers tough questions, and facilitate discussion. Up next in the series is “Deep Ocean” with PRI’s Director of Publications Dr. Paula Mikkelsen.

No admission to the showing of “Planet Earth” will be charged. It is free and
open to the public.

Museum of the Earth and Guild of Natural Science Illustrator’s Art Workshops

GNSI Art Workshops: Ice Age Animals

Museum of the Earth and Guild of Natural Science Illustrator’s (GNSI) present Art Workshops taught by locally-well known scientific illustrator, Camille Doucet. Each workshop (total of 4) will explore different methods and mediums of producing artwork, with an emphasis on Museum of the Earth fossils and specimens. These workshops are for both children and adults, ages 8 and up. Supplies will be provided.

Cost for each 3-hour workshop: Members: $36, Non-Members: $45 (discount if you sign up for 2+ workshops)
